UP constantly on the rise in international rankings

Palacký University Olomouc (UP) has repeatedly scored in prestigious international rankings comparing global universities in recent years. Such rankings evaluate the scientific performance of universities, based on Scopus and the Web of Science databases. Most of the rankings take into account the quality of teaching, internationalisation of the university, co-operation with industry and non-academic sphere, etc. Reputation of science, reseach and teaching of the university is significant for rankings too.

One of the most renowned global rankings of universities, The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, evaluating universities in several areas (the quality of teaching, science and research, citations, international outlook, and co-operation with the corporate sector), first featured Palacký University in 2015. Palacký University thus entered the elite club of the 800 most renowned universities from 70 countries, placing at #501–600.

In 2016 Palacký University has been included in the prestigeous international QS World University Rankings. The Rankings list more than 900 universities. The Czech Republic is represented by five universities in the top 700 positions, and Palacký University is on the fourth position among the Czech universities, being globally ranked within the 651–700 positions.

The placement of Palacký University among the world’s top universities was confirmed by the journal U.S. News & World Report, featuring the world-renowned U. S. News and World Report Best Global Universities Rankings. In the new edition of the rankings, UP has stepped up to the 473th position among the 800 most respected universities, jumping fifteen positions compared to last year.

In the QS EECA (Quacquarelli Symonds Emerging Europe and Central Asia) Ranking for the years 2015 and 2016, Palacký University was ranked #64 among 150 universities from 30 countries.

Other rankings

In the ranking of the world’s best universities provided by The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), Palacký University Olomouc placed 724th, rising 80 places compared to last year’s CWUR ranking. The one thousand ranked universities represent a mere 3 percent of all the universities in the world.

Palacký University also succeeded, due to its high number of important scientific publications, in the international ranking CWTS (Centre for Science and Technology Studies) Leiden Ranking 2015 which measures the scientific performance of 750 major universities worldwide. UP outperformed Masaryk University in Brno as well as Prague’s Charles University in citation impact. Olomouc’s university also excels in the number and the proportion of publications that have been co-authored by researchers from two or more countries or with commercial/industrial partners.

The Faculty of Physical Culture placed within 101st–150th position in the Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments 2016. The ranking is based on performance in science and research, and Physical Culture at Palacký University Olomouc has been evaluated in the same league as the University of Edinburgh, Florida State University or Murdoch University in Australia. It is the first placement of Palacký University in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), one of the three most prestigious international rankings evaluating universities worldwide.
