Awards Granted Outside of UP

Czech Ministry of Education Award for Outstanding Results in Research, Experimental Development and Innovations

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic has been granting this award since 2009. The award is meant to make visible the contribution of scientific achievements of personalities of national and even international significance. The award also serves to strengthen the awareness of the greater public concerning the work and outstanding results of Czech scientists. Palacký University boasts three recipients of this award.

Czech Mind Awards

The national award Česká hlava (Czech Mind Awards) is the most prestigious award for scientists in the Czech Republic. It has been awarded since 2002. The purpose of the initiative Czech Mind is to create awareness to the effect that the country can only prosper if it can bring up new scientists such as famous Czechs Otto Wichterle, the inventor of contact lenses, or the Nobel Prize winner, chemist and inventor Jaroslav Heyrovský, and if it knows how to provide them with proper material and social recognition. One of the laureates of the national award is chemist Pavel Hobza, works at Palacký University's Faculty of Sciences.

František Běhounek Prize

The prize associated with the name of an important Czech physicist, academic, and writer, František Běhounek, is awarded by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in order to support and appraise Czech scientists participating in European research and development projects. The purpose of the award is also to increase the recognition of their science-research activities, successful projects, and international collaboration. The award was initiated in 2012. One of its laureates, Jiří Bártek, is associated with Palacký University.

Milada Paulová Prize

This award for life-long contribution to Czech science has been bestowed by the National Contact Centre - Gender and Science at the Institute of Sociology at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, along with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. Palacký University proudly employs one laureate of this award, ecologist Milena Rychnovská; two other UP female scientists have also been nominated.

Milan Odehnal Prize

A competition between academic works of young physicists, announced by the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists biannually. In 2014, three opticians from Palacký University were awarded.

Award of the President of the Czech Science Foundation

The award for outstanding results in research projects in the area of basic research supported by the Czech Science Foundation is granted annually to researchers and research teams of important scientific projects.

Werner von Siemens Excellence Award

The award is granted each year to talented students, promising young scientists, and university teachers from important science and technology universities and academic institutions throughout the Czech Republic. The competition is organised by the Czech branch of Siemens in cooperation with Czech top universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, under the patronage of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports and the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.

Neuron Fund Award

The Neuron Fund Award for Contribution to World Science is designated to acknowledge and recognise top Czech scientists at home and abroad who have achieved significant success in their fields and as such can serve as role models and inspirations. It is a special award of the Neuron Fund for Support of Science granted to outstanding personalities. The Neuron Award for Promising Young Scientists is designated to acknowledge Czech scientists under the age of 40, who have achieved excellent scientific results, and to recognise their activities and promote their future progress. Each year, scientists are awarded in the fields of Physics, Mathematics, Medicine and Social Sciences; since 2014 also in Chemistry.

The annual Discovery Award accompanied with a financial award is granted by the Novartis company to researchers under 40 years of age who have contributed to a substantial advancement in the field of medical and pharmaceutical research. Since 2011, Biomedicine has been included too.
