List of important professional and educational events that take place regularly with the participation of scientific institutions of Palacký University.
This cycle of lectures is in its eleventh year. The course is led by the most cited Czech scientist and the laureate of Czech Mind 2008, Pavel Hobza, from the Department of Physical Chemistry and the Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials. Five dozen scientific personalities have accepted invitations. The lectures take place in the auditorium hall of the UP Faculty of Science; in addition to natural scientists, other academics and the public are also invited.
This prestigious lectures series is held under the auspices of the General Director of the Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials, Radek Zbořil. Its goal is to introduce the most famous and successful scientists in chemical and material research from all over the world to the Czech audience. This unique cycle of lectures was named in honour of Rudolf Zahradník, the doyen of Czech chemistry and former President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
The traditional meeting of Czech ophthalmologists has been organised by the Department of Ophthalmology, Teaching Hospital Olomouc and the Faculty of Medicine, Palacký University Olomouc under the patronage of the Czech Ophthalmologic Society and Czech VitreoRetinal Society since 1999. This nation-wide conference is annually attended by approximately 500 ophthalmologists, who elaborate on key themes selected three years in advance. It is held in honour of Professor Václav Vejdovský, the first dean of the Faculty of Medicine of re-established Palacký University and an outstanding Czech ophthalmologist, who was the head of the ophthalmologic department for 42 years.
One of the most important Czech academic events with specialisation in surgery takes place in Olomouc biannually, hosting specialists such as doctors and nurses from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is organised by the Department of Surgery I, Teaching Hospital Olomouc and the Faculty of Medicine, Palacký University Olomouc. This surgical congress carries the name of two major figures of Czech and Moravian surgery - Professor Julius Petřivalský, a representative of Europe's renowned Moravian Surgical School, and his student, Professor Vladislav Rapant, the founder and first head of the Department of Surgery in Olomouc. The first year of this popular academic event took place in 1965.
A one-day seminar organised since 2013 by the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in Teaching Hospital Olomouc and the Faculty of Medicine, Palacký University Olomouc. The programme is aimed at doctors, nurses, and students, and consists of lectures on specific problems in the fields of anaesthesiology, emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation, clearance of air passages, and intensive care. The programme includes poster sections and workshops. This academic event was named in honour of Dr. Alfréd Hirsch, the first head and the founder of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Teaching Hospital in Olomouc.
The prestigious international conference is one of the most long-standing academic events of the Czech Society of Haematology, co-organised with the Department of Haemato-Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine, Palacký University Olomouc since the 1990s. Originally a local event, it became a widely recognised convention of both Czech and foreign oncologists and haemato-oncologists, gradually complemented with satellite symposia, a special section for nurses and laboratory workers, and Symposia on Advances in Molecular Haematology, attended by many Czech and international top scientists with oral presentations in English. A traditional part of the annual meetings is the Wiedermann Lecture, relating to the founder of Olomouc haematology school, Professor Boleslav Wiedermann. Olomouc Haematology Days have been accredited by the European Haematology Association in the CME ECAH system - Continual Medical Education of European Council for Accreditation in Haematology
This international academic conference is the most important at the UP Faculty of Law every year. The two-day programme usually consists of two parts - plenary presentations by top experts on topical issues in Czech law are combined with talks in thematic sections.
The Olomouc Days of Law are highly recognised for the high quality of their organisation and academic content. In addition to the coverage of topical issues, the event also offers a precious opportunity to meet renowned lawyers from the Czech Republic and abroad.

The Department of Mathematical Analysis and Applied Mathematics at the UP Faculty of Science organises an annual conference Olomouc Days of Applied Mathematics (ODAM). The conference was founded by Professor Lubomír Kubáček in 1999 as a friendly meeting of experts in applied mathematics as well as professionals who need to cooperate with mathematicians in a certain stage of their work. The conference gradually gained a twofold focus - with alternating years on mathematical statistics and fuzzy sets, and mathematical modelling.
Green for Good is a series of successful conferences in the area of plant biotechnology, organised by Palacký University in cooperation with the European Federation of Biotechnology and the Phytochemical Society of Europe. It has been held biannually since 2011. The intention of the organisers is to create a highly attractive academic programme and to combine top international experts and Czech academic authorities. The conference also serves as a platform for young beginning scientists, who gain experience with presenting their academic results in the international environment. The conference will include 8 sessions (focused on plant stress, plant-microbe interactions, plant genomics, plant bioactive compounds, phytochemical analysis, plant biosynthetic pathways, molecular farming and phytoremediation) and the student poster competition.
During the conference, a popularization event will take place in the centre of Olomouc to introduce the issues of plant biotechnologies, including genetic modifications, to the public.
These Olomouc meetings are an annual place of open discussion, constructive exchange of ideas, and creative search for answers to topical legal issues. The conference participants benefit from the academic content as well as the opportunity to build worthy professional and human ties in the spirit of the motto "Cooperation and Friendship". Dozens of lawyers who are young in spirit regularly attend to present their opinions. The participants include experts from faculties of law and representatives of attorney's offices and state administration both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
The debates have been held since 2007, usually at the beginning of the Autumn school term in Akademia Hotel in Hrubá Voda near Olomouc. Conference proceedings from all years are available on the website of the event.
The content and organisation of the international academic conferences, held since 2008, is largely provided by the Centre for Patristic, Medieval and Renaissance Texts at the Sts Cyril and Methodius Faculty of Theology, Palacký University Olomouc. This meeting of academic and scientific experts from the entire Czech Republic and foreign experts offers a space for presentation of scientific findings and approaches to the study of ancient Christian thinking and literature.
The past years, open to doctoral and regular students and other persons interested in patristics, were dedicated to the themes of patristic exegesis and the works of Clement of Alexandria and his biblical exegesis. The next international colloquium is planned for the year 2017; according to the planned output of a research project, it should deal with the philosophical heritage of Saint Augustine.
The co-organiser of this regular international conference is the Patristic Society of the Czech Republic, with various Czech faculties of theology and institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic participating in individual years.
This regular academic symposium focuses on innovations and modern trends in cardiology and cardiac surgery in connection to the recent findings in European research and education. Besides lectures, participants may also see live broadcasts from selected specialised procedures, performed by experts in the modern catheterisation laboratories in Teaching Hospital Olomouc. There is a section for nurses on the most recent recommended procedures in everyday clinical practice; the programme also includes traditional educational afternoons for patients.
The symposium has been organised by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of Palacký University Olomouc, Teaching Hospital Olomouc, and the Czech National eHealth Center in cooperation with the Czech Medical Chamber and the Czech Nurses Association since 2010. The title honours the contribution of Professor Pavel Lukl, a world-renowned cardiologist, the former head of the Department of Internal Medicine in Olomouc and President of the European Society of Cardiology in the 1960s.
The nationwide ophthalmologic symposium embraces summary papers, panel discussions, and solutions of minicasuistics on topical themes in ophthalmology. This academic and educational event, attended by 300 participants each year, is organised by the Department of Ophthalmology and Teaching Hospital Olomouc and is accredited in the system of continuing education of ophthalmologists. The symposium is named after the head of the department of ophthalmology in the former Moravian Hospital in Olomouc, Eduard Konrad Zirm, who performed the first successful human full-thickness corneal transplant. The first Zirm's Olomouc Colloquium took place in November 2010.
